The Boxer Rebellion
In case you haven’t heard them yet, this week’s Artist of the week is The Boxer Rebellion, from London. With their release Union chosen as I-Tune’s Best Alternative Album of the Year in 2009, this band is really making huge waves as an unsigned act. I can’t imagine some label doesn’t pick them up soon.
Now, on to what is important though, the music. I could describe it as very melodic, intelligent, modern rock with a retro twist. For my usual comparison I’ll say they sound similar to U2 and Radiohead collaborating on a project, with a touch of a band like The Simple Minds throwing in their 2 cents to the creative mix, giving it that sometimes retro feel.
This band is really good, and I can’t imagine that their popularity won’t increase drastically over the next year. The beautiful music and the evident passion behind will surely connect with more and more listeners.
The Boxer Rebellion will be playing the SXSW music festival in Austin, Texas this year, which I am happy to say I will be attending. Try and catch them live whenever you can, and in the meantime be sure to take another listen, or listen for the first time!
