Review: Okay, so I will finally be reviewing Collective Soul’s latest album Afterwords.

The album was originally released August 27th, 2007, but I think I am not alone in knowing nothing about it at first. The band had a deal to only sell it on Itunes and at Target. Since I shop at neither place, I never even knew about it. As of December 2008 everything is now as it should be, the CD and MP3s are available everywhere.

Alright, on with the review. The album starts out with the upbeat bang of New Vibrations. The song h as a very catchy, rocking riff, as is typical of CS, and Ed Roland’s vocal stylings are great. There are a few similar tunes on the disc like I don’t need Anymore Friends, and Hollywood.

A lot of the album is what I would call Chilled, Melodic Rock. Okay, so I just thought of that, but it seems to fit.  Some of the songs (Georgia Girl, Give, Good Morning After All, Adored) are just beautiful. The use of sweet, melodic chords and heart felt vocals are a great combination. One thing I have always enjoyed about Collective Soul is their willingness to be a bit experimental on their albums, and this one is no exception. From guitar sounds and arrangements, to the creative use of effects and sound design, it is a sonic pleasure to hear the album.

If you have been a fan of Collective Soul, like myself (since 1994) I would find it hard to believe that you wouldn’t enjoy this album. I think it is one of their best actually…right up their with Dosage and Hints and Allegations…..
I find it to be a fulfilling plate of music with all the courses….nice rockin’ tracks and mellow softer rock with ballad-like songs that aren’t sappy love songs and appeal to true human heart and soul.

In closing, I was very pleased with this album and can’t stop listening to it as of yet.
I highly recommend buying it now!  Grin

It’s funny, Collective Soul has always been a band I enjoyed over the years, but in recent years I think I have just begun to realize how much I really do appreciate their music. In actuality they are probably one of my most favorite bands…if not indeed my favorite.

Alright, until next time…whenever that will be.  Cool Thanks for reading.
