The Smoking Hearts will be stamping their mark on the British music scene on March 8th of 2010 with the release of debut album Pride Of Nowhere. Storming out of rural England, The Smoking Hearts unleash a whirlwind combination of relentless punk rock and cutting rock’n’roll.

With Pride Of Nowhere, the band deftly call upon their arsenal of screaming vocals, ruthless guitars and thunderous beats. The resulting effect is 13 ferocious blasts that shout out loud “be who you want to be”. Pride Of Nowhere is a record full of anger and frustration at a world that demands conformity and mindless ritual. It tells the story of five reprobates who like to have fun, rock out, and have a good time all the time. Taking digs at the common work environment “we hope you all choke on your nine to five”, and former loves “looks like The Ritz but she’s The Bates Motel”, The Smoking Hearts also highlight their philosophies of life with lyrics like “We’ll raise a toast to the ones that hate us most”.

Recorded on a farm in Bedfordshire with Nick Mailing (Quireboys/Trashlight Vision) and Mastered by Russ Russell (Napalm Death/The Wildhearts) over the course of just 14 days (and nights), this 13 song opus clocks in at a frantic 29 minutes and 25 seconds.

“It’s about doing what you want and not taking shit for doing so” says Bassist Calvin. “So many people are happy to live their lives without ever stopping to consider whether they are doing what they really want to do, or if they are just content to become their parents and grow old gracefully. F**k that.”

Graceful is definitely not a word to describe The Smoking Hearts. Live shows have seen guitar headstocks smashed and drum kits sprawled across stages. It is not uncommon to find half the band on the floor with the crowd and, on occasion, half the crowd on stage with the band.

In their short career as a band, The Smoking Hearts have travelled thousands of miles, opening shows for the likes of Gallows, Bring Me The Horizon, Winnebago Deal and The Supersuckers, as well as some iconic acts such as Misfits and Skid Row.

Pride Of Nowhere is a record for many states of mind – these are songs that will inspire attitudes to party, drink, fight. But ultimately it is the anti-thesis of sitting around and letting things happen to you; it has everything to do with making life happen for yourself.

Motion Picture Soundtrack to Release New Single

Motion Picture Soundtrack is soon to be releasing new  material.

NEW SINGLE ‘GLASS FIGURES’ TO BE RELEASED 22nd FEBRUARY 2010

(Endgame Records)

www.myspace.com/mps

“Soaring, epic tunes. One to watch out for!” XFM

“Utterly glorious throughout. Listen to it. Wallow in it. Bathe in it… This is gorgeous stuff.” BBC Introducing

“A band that should definitely be heard!” Kerrang!

“Powerful, melodic soundscapes.  Promising stuff…”  – Total Guitar magazine (#6 on the on the TG top downloads chart)

Building on the successful release of their critically acclaimed ‘Departure EP’, Kent-based alt-rock band Motion Picture Soundtrack launch into 2010 with their huge second single ‘Glass Figures’ through Endgame Records.

Produced by Paul Schroeder (The Stone Roses, The Verve), Cenzo Townshend (Editors, Bloc Party, Klaxons) and Bob Ludwig (RATM, Radiohead, Tool…) ‘Glass Figures’ precedes the release of their debut album ‘The Shapes We Fear Are Of Our Own’ (1st March) with a thunderous, engaging, Jeff Buckley/Editors-esque crossover that comes at you ‘like a shower of knives’.

The material, slightly darker and heavier than their previous release ‘Departure’ sees Motion Picture Soundtrack once again assert themselves as not only masters of the crescendo but excellent at uniting thoughtful tender moments with out and out crushing rock. The manifesto is simple – to create music to move the listener. It’s intricate – but under the bands complete control – and made to seem effortless.

2010 sees the band fulfilling the promise of that first XFM review. The sonic swirling of their sound draws a definitive line between the patient, brooding and stylistic MPS – a band with real staying power – and the countless fly by night acts that clog up much of the community. With people across the UK taking a deeper interest in their work and an ever-increasing number of fans discovering the power of the live show, they are truly a band to connect with. The coming year could well be theirs.

Anarbor: MyndJack Music’s Artist of the Week

Anarbor, out of Pheonix, Az, are the new Artist of the Week. Made up of High School and long time friends, the band has cultivated a nice pop rock/punk sound, with catchy choruses and clean, heavy guitar riffs. Perhaps you could compare them to bands like Good Charlotte, Fall Out Boy, and The All American Rejects. I’ve been listening to their music for a few months now, having first heard them on the sixty-one, and I am still enjoying it. They are busy touring the states now, so check their website for dates and try and catch a show in your area. In the meantime, hear them online:

Verity in Stereo: MyndJack Music’s Artist of The Week

Verity in Stereo band pic

The band Verity in Stereo (formerly known as Hip Like Blank) hails from New Jersey/NY and in my belief should be big this year. I guess if we had to play the categorization game I would call them something along the lines of Indie pop/piano rock. Who knows really? It is no easy task to define them in such a manner. What I can say is that they are a unique band with a sound that needs to be heard. When you listen, it’s a nice break from the mundane, everyday “stuff” you often hear on the radio. Starting out as a duo made up of the Kuhi syblings, Kiirstin and Mikal, they produced songs uniquely their own, drawing from roots in jazz, rock, pop and even hip hop. With bassist, Greg Boccieri and drummer, Craig Williams aboard the band is complete. I had the fortune of seeing them at their CD release party at the Stone Pony in Asbury Park last weekend, and they were incredible. To say the band put on a good show would be an understatement. Having said that, I can’t wait to see what this band is capable of in the future. No words I can convey will do well enough to give you an idea about this band. You must, must, must, listen for yourselves! Enjoy!

Vampire Weekend Tops the Charts!

Vampire Weekend’s sophomore release, Contra, has topped the Billboard Top 200 in it’s first week. Fans bought up 124,000 copies. Their debut album peaked at number 17, so the band has come quite a ways. VW is positioning themselves as one of the top bands out there right now. Good luck guys.

Matthew Mayfield News Blurb

Matthew Mayfield, our current Artist of the Week, will have his music featured again on Grey’s Anatomy on Thursday night this week. Congrats, Matthew.

Matthew Mayfield: MyndJack Music’s Artist of the Week

Matthew Mayfield earns the honor this week as our artist of the week. He is a singer/songwriter out of Alabama. Music has been a part of his life for a very long time. At one point he was even signed to Columbia Records with his band Moses Mayfield in 2002. They were dropped after having their first release out for only 6 weeks. Who knows what happened there???

That has not slowed Matthew down though. He has now released 2 EPs as a solo artist and they are just superb. His songwriting skills have matured and there is no denying the passion behind his efforts. When you listen to his songs it’s as if his heart and soul are exposed and poured out for our listening. Everything is so well done, from the lyrics, beautiful melodies, passionate vocals and the structure of each song. It’s hard to relay to another just what you feel when hearing his songs. Please have a listen for yourself. I consider his music nothing short of AMAZING! Obviously I have been very impressed.

This song in particular blew me away:
