Van Halen Recording a New Album with David Lee Roth

According to an announcement from Warner/Chappel, Van Halen is currently in the studio working on a new album with former front man, David Lee Roth. This would be Roth’s first time recording a full album with the band since the “1984” album. Some reports are also claiming the band will tour in support of the album sometime next year.

Who would have thought? A new album with Diamond Dave back on the mic. I, for one, can’t wait to hear what the new stuff will sound like. I’m sure plenty of Van Halen fans are just as anxious.

Soundgarden is Back with Telephantasm

August 3, 2010—Seattle, WA– Recently reunited Soundgarden will release their first collection of music since 1996 in the form of Telephantasm on September 28th in the US and September 27th internationally.  This multi-label, career-spanning retrospective album includes beloved band hits, deep back catalogue cuts and a never-before-heard unreleased track entitled “Black Rain, taken from the Badmotorfinger recording sessions. Telephantasm marks the first time ever a collection of its kind has been collated in one place.

Like the iconic ‘60s and ‘70s bands which inspired them, Soundgarden redefined rock music for a whole generation and had a revolutionary impact on the course of musical history. As one of the first bands to release music on the venerated Sub Pop label, and the first band to come out of the 90’s Seattle music scene to later sign to a major label, they are once again making history with Telephantasm. The band has announced that they will be partnering with innovative gaming publisher Activision Publishing, Inc. to release the album on September 27th / 28th via A&M/Universal Music Group inside 1 million copies of the new videogame Guitar Hero®: Warriors of Rock.  This release marks the first time a music album will be simultaneously released and bundled with a video game launch.  All North American Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock launch units will contain the 12-song retrospective disc and will be exclusive to Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock for one week (until October 5).  Additionally, fans will get full access to the band’s new album as downloadable content for Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock day and date with the launch of the game.

“We are thrilled about the exclusive and trailblazing partnership between Guitar Hero:  Warriors of Rock and Soundgarden,” said David Haddad, Chief Operating Officer, Guitar Hero.  “The fact that this seminal band chose Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock as the way to reintroduce themselves speaks volumes about Guitar Hero’s ability to deliver music, in an exciting, interactive way, to millions of music fans and gamers. The extensive collaboration – bundling Telephantasm with Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock, including the unreleased “Black Rain” as an exclusive in the game and releasing the entire album as downloadable content – demonstrates Soundgarden’s and Guitar Hero’s commitment to delivering a great experience for its fans.”
Additionally, on September 27th / 28th A&M/Universal Music Group will be releasing 3 expanded versions of Telephantasm which will include a double-disc with 12 additional tracks, 5 of which are previously unreleased, and Soundgarden’s first-ever DVD, featuring 20 videos, 13 of which have never been released, a Deluxe 3-LP Vinyl Edition and an individually numbered Super Deluxe Collector’s Edition. The Super Deluxe Collector’s Edition will be available for a limited time and will include 2 CDs, the limited edition DVD, three heavy vinyl discs, a collectible poster, lithos, and much more. These 3 expanded versions will be available at all music retail outlets and on the band’s website.

On April 16th 2010, Chris Cornell, Kim Thayil, Ben Shepherd and Matt Cameron of Soundgarden took to the stage together for the first time in 12 years at the Showbox Theater in Seattle.  Playing songs from their celebrated and acclaimed catalogue, the result was nothing short of brilliant and saw the four band members playing with the same heart and vigor for which they have always been known. On August 8th, Soundgarden will hit the stage again, headlining Lollapalooza in Chicago’s Grant Park, preceded by a sold-out show at the Vic Theatre on August 5th.

Most Played Artist of the Decade?

Who is the most played Artist of the decade? Probably not who you think, but it goes to show that County Music can stand on it’s own, despite often being treated like a step-child in the music industry.

Okay, so who is it you ask. Not Britney, not Kanye, not Jay-Z, not Beyonce, not Coldplay or Nickelback…

***drumroll***

None other than Tim McGraw.

Tim has been spun a whopping 7,965,000 from January 1, 2000 to December 31, 2009.

Congratulations, Mr. McGraw.

Ju’Not Joyner Launches New Website

www.junotlive.com has launched. Now you can find out all the latest news, check out the blog, look up tour info, and hear the music of Ju’Not Joyner. Straight outta Baltimore, you’ve never heard anything quite like Ju’Not. An R&B artist that’s not afraid to take chances and break the mold of the everyday mundane. As it says on the site:

The social relevance of Marvin Gaye. The substance of Michael Jackson. The sensuality of Maxwell. The song-writing ability of Stevie Wonder. The diversity of R. Kelly. The longevity of Ron Isley.  Mix all that up with a hint of the Black Eyed Peas.

Do yourself a favor and take a listen to Ju’Not. Expect big things from him in the near future.

Peter Steele, of Type O Negative, has Died

R.I.P. Peter Steele
January 4, 1962  – April 14, 2010

Peter Steele, of the Brooklyn based, Goth Metal band Type O Negative, has passed away. It’s being reported simply as heart failure at this point. He was only 48 years old.

I remember when these guys first hit big in the early 90′s. Saw the video for Black #1 on Headbanger’s Ball one night and was blown away. I rushed out to get the album Bloody Kisses and was just amazed out how different and creative the album was. Goth bands today wish they were Type O Negative. They really set a new bar, and were onto something new. I saw them live with Ozzy back in the day and it was amazing.

It’s too bad to hear about Pete today. I know he had been troubled in the past with drugs, prison time, and other personal things, but hopefully none of that played a part in his early death. Talent & Innovation like his doesn’t come around everyday.

RIP, Pete!

Elyse Saunders: MyndJack Music’s Artist of the Week

Yes, I’m going a little country this week. Elyse Saunders is the new Artist of the week. From Peterborough, Ontario, this girl can sure sing. She has a maturity in her voice that you’d think she had been a mainstay on the country charts for years already. I’d compare her to the likes of a singer as great as Martina McBride and not worry about anybody thinking I was loony for it once they hear Elyse. The vocals are there, and she has all the potential in the world to be a great country star in the near future, in fact, I would be shocked if she wasn’t.

Her music is modern and fun and belongs up there with all the hits coming out of the country music scene these days. Take a good listen to songs like Mama Hates Guitars, Paris is Burning, and Nobody’s Watching, and I think you will agree.

Check out Elyse Saunder’s Website and MySpace.

SXSW 2010, Bands Above the Rest

So, here is my quick take on bands I saw at SXSW (South by Southwest) this year that seemed to rise above the thousands of other bands. Now, obviously I did not see every band there, who can? I did see a lot, but I would recommend surfing the net for other music blogs and sites and see what their feedback was on the bests artist at SXSW. You however are on my site now, so you get my picks. =)

My Picks:

  • Francis – Fantastic band from Sweden. This is one band that you can believe it when you hear that they are so unique and original. Truly hard to classify. They have a great sound and an amazing live performance. The singer, Petra, is so dynamic and you can’t take your eyes off her cause you want to see what she will do next. Great performer and singer. I really can’t describe their music. It has elements of rock, pop, old school country, and classic top 40 as far back as the 50′s. Listen to them now….and be sure to catch them when live whenever you get the chance. They are a must see! The live experience is even better than the CD.
  • Fighting With Wire – Well I won’t be redundant here. Check out what I said about these guys as MyndJack Artist of the week. Click Here.
  • The Boxer Rebellion – How these guys aren’t signed yet I don’t know. Again though, check out what I had to say about them as Artists of the week. Click Here

Fighting With Wire: MyndJack Music’s Artist of the Week

At last the AotW is back. Taking the honors this week is Fighting With Wire, a band out of Northern Ireland that I caught during in SXSW last month. These guys stood out with the best acts, in a very crowded field, that I saw. The band was great live, really packing a punch and some healthy aggression. I couldn’t help but every now and then think I was hearing almost a more modern Nirvana sound. There were certainly some nice grunge elements in their songs as well as some hard-hitting metal & punk. As they performed I just kept thinking that I was glad I stumbled into this bar and caught the show; which turned out to be one of the high points of SXSW for me. These guys were what rock is all about and come highly recommended by me. I could go on and on though and never do the justice that hearing them for yourself would do. So go listen now!
